Currently a popular destination for Europeans. Why? It’s exotic in the purest sense of the word, it’s safe, close by and with a standard of services to match all expectations. Ideal for trekking, desert excursions, cultural visits, relax on the beach or simply go shopping on the souks. Morocco has it all.
We normally base and begin our trips in Marrakech. The imperial city is located in the geographic centre of a triangle that could define Morocco:
- To the south, the Atlas Mountains, ideal for trekking. In just over an hour you can be in traditional Berber villages perched in the High Atlas, with views of the Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak.
- To the east, the Atlantic Ocean and the stunning port of Essaouira. This ancient Portuguese enclave still retains its ramparts, turrets and even its old cannons. Small, picturesque and inviting, this is one of the most beautiful places on the Moroccan coast.
- And to the west, across a landscape of valleys, ancient fortresses and fortified cities (the famous “Kasbashs”), we get to the desert. A sunset or sunrise on the giant dunes of Erg Chebi will live on in your memory forever.
Back in Marrakech, past and present blend together in an array of sights, smells, colours and sounds: turmeric, saffron, terracotta walls, vermilion carpets, the song of the muezzin in the mosque, drums and darbukas in Djemaa el-Fna Square.
Morocco is a place to be enjoyed with each and every one of your senses.
And not forgetting the “ryads”. These are traditional houses in Marrakech and Fez that have been beautifully restored and converted into luxury boutique hotels, keeping every ounce of their authenticity. Exquisite places of peace and good taste, oases of calm in the bustling labyrinth of their “medinas”.
